Bee-longing in the Blogosphere

Naked in a room filled with flowers and angry bees. That’s what it feels like putting something onto the internet for everyone to see. Sure, the flowers are pretty and smell nice, but the bees are anything but sweet. As I am entering the world of blogging, I hope the flowers outnumber the bees.

While knowing my opinion about putting things on the internet for everyone to see, one question that many people may have is “Why the hell are you doing it then?” It’s not because of my love of writing. It’s because creating a blog is a part of an assignment, and I want to pass the class. As a college student, that’s a pretty normal motivator.

Although I don’t feel the greatest about blogging, I still know a few things about how to do it effectively. One of the most important tools at your disposal to net yourself a few clicks is the title. Including an interesting or funny title can help grab the attention of a passerby on the web. The title can either draw people in or push them out.

If you feel that you’re writing too much for the viewer, pictures can be a great way to give them a break. It makes the blog feel less like a jail cell, and more like a jail cell with a photo on the wall. Some people find reading boring, but if there’s a photo it can help alleviate some of the boredom. Just be sure to cite photos or use royalty-free photos, the latter of which can be found at Pexels.

Now for the great thing about making a blog. It’s yours. It isn’t an essay you have to write objectively about the benefits of using Facebook to reach a demographic. You can choose the topic and how to write it. If you think King Kong could absolutely destroy Godzilla in a one-on-one battle, write to your heart’s content and make it interesting. Odds are there will be others to support the King as much as you do. The internet is a big place, after all.

I’m new to blogging, but I’ll do my best regardless of angry bees. Maybe I’ll try to enjoy the flowers that pop up a bit more. What about you? Are you new to blogging, or a veteran with bug repellent and tips to spare? Anything helps, and the comment section isn’t just for show.
